JAH CRISS aka Dubmaster

Jah Criss is a true representative of the bubbeling reggae scene in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. He was one of the founding members of the immensely popular DIGITALDUBS Sound System, the first exclusively dedicated to Jamaican music in that city. Recently the System preformed for a massive audience in the big Brazilian festival, Rock in Rio.

Strictly connected with the message of reggae, he understands the struggle and rise over adversity by the music.

Coming from a family with a long history of afro Brazilian resistance,  he was taught about the true history of the Africans taken to Brazil.
This connected him with the music and the message of the sound systems, as a bridge to reach his african identity.
For 17 years he's been present inside the scene producing and performin. Jah Criss collected a vast experience in different venues as a resident or a guest selector with a creative and special energy to mix and communicate about the music coming from the Island.|
Recently he was invited to play in Reggae Geel Festival in Belgium - 2015, in partnership with the Dutch Producer Christa van den Heuvel running the BIGYAAD PROJECT.Even in Londen he was seen bouncin places that same year. He also attended places in Nederlands like Plekk, Kwaku Festival, and International Documentary Film Festival  Amsterdam.
His inspiration and style cover any period of the Jamaican music with a range that goes from early times like R&B/Ska/Rocksteady to the most recent updates bursting in the New Reggae and Dancehall styles, also passing through the golden era (One Drop/Rocker-Steppa/Rub-a-Dub/Early Digikal 80’s).
His connections with the most talented Brazilian producers allows him to present a very new perspective on the evolution and the influence of Jamaican music in Brazil.
Specially devoted to the RIDDIM concepts his set are flavored with the best Djs and Singers of any time/period in a progressive and conscious way to deliver to the people all relevant messages are carried inside the Jamaican musical field.

Esta página é dedicada a minha paixão pela cultura jamaicana, desde minha infância.
Fui criado numa família onde valores africanos eram apreciados e cresci educado dentro da concepção da afro-diáspora.
A música desenvolvida na Jamaica, a meu ver, representa o núcleo desses valores, a capital criativa e inspiracional.
Então partindo destes princípios eu venho ao longo do tempo procurando meios de me expressar.
Desde ser ativista nos Blocos Afro em minha adolescência, até estar junto a fundação do primeiro Sound System do Rio de Janeiro, referência internacional, Digitaldubs Sound System, minha intenção é compartilhar as histórias de uma mente em constante diáspora.
Em 2012 estive em London, em pesquisa junto aos Sound Systems operando por lá.
Em 2013 volto pra Zona Oeste - Campo Grande, onde cresci. Região plena de afro descendência, com semelhanças explícitas aos outros lugares no mundo onde esta herança se faz presente.
Em 2014 vou pra Amsterdam e continuo meu trabalho de pesquisa em regiões como a periferia desta cidade, no sudoeste, o chamado Zuidoost.
Lá participei de um programa de intercâmbio junto a populações afro-caribenhas onde compartilhei experiências e abordamos a questão de como populações e indivíduos oriundos desta afro-herança podem sobreviver no sistema, referido nas palavras do Movimento Rastafar-I como Babylon.
Agora, de volta ao meu país, inicio então uma trajetória visando arte-educação através da vivência comum de valores africanos, promovendo enriquecimento e progresso para as populações, em geral marginalizadas, onde o ser afro-descendente vive e sua cultura floresce.
